Collected for the picture

From about 1920, towns printed series that were finer than payment required. Series notes showed gates, legends, costume and advertising for a savings bank or a brewery. Collectors bought the whole set, often without ever spending a note. Emergency money became an art object and an advertisement. Printer, artist and town shared the proceeds. The note stayed legal tender, but the print run was meant for the album.
